Your F 350 dually is rated by Ford for 20k GCVW, meaning truck, trailer, load on the trailer, you and passengers. To answer your #1 question, NO you can not legally pull it. Now, is Ford going to honor your warranty if you grossly overload your truck and twist the frame up like a pretzel? No. But with the trailer brakes, it's not a problem. An 18-wheeler tractor can't stop 88,000 lbs by itself. I could use the manual switch on the brake controller to stop the truck, trailer, and load without ever touching the brakes on my truck. You have to realize that a trailer, like we're talking about, has massive brakes. (providing that you have purchased a license plate to cover your GCW)Ĭan you do it safely? Sure, I did it all the time. If you're pulling a dual-tandem G/N all you have to do to be legal is not have over 12,000 lbs on the rear axle of your truck. Now that's just the max weight of the truck, not the trailer. I also asked about my F-350, and if I remeber correctly, I believe it was 8,000 front and 12,000 rear(DRW). The state police, truck safety people said that with 8.25x20 tires, single on front, dual on rear, I could carry a maximum of 12,000 and 18,000 pounds respectively, for a total of 30,000. It was a I/H S1500 with a GVWR of 23,000. I found this out a few years back when I had a dump truck. The GVWR or GCVWR has nothing to do with. And axle load is determined by the number of tires on that axle and tire size. I don't know about the laws on the "Left Coast." /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Here in La, it IS legal, as long as you don't have any one of the axles over-loaded. No flames, and I'm not trying to pick a fight. Can I just put a pintle hitch into my existing receiver hitch if the weight load is well distributed on the trailer?Īny help you could offer would be appreciated. Will a pintle hitch loboy work for this load? I have seen several pintle hitch dual tandum equipment trailers sell at surplus auctions, but I have never pulled a pintle and not sure how much toung weight a pintle type trialer with a 16K dozer will put on the truck. How much trailer do I need, dual tandum lowboy or goose rated for as much as the dozer weighs?ģ. Can I legally tow this behind my F350 dually? I know the truck will pull the weight.Ģ. Now I need to transport it regularly between 3 locations, all of which are only about 12 miles apart on level roads (everything here is flat,) with no highway driving. I bought a Dresser TD7E which the best I can figure is at 16,000 lbs, maybe just a little more with the hyd ripper on the back.
